supplies needed:
T-shirts
Bleach Pen
Making some back to school gear today!!
This project takes very little time but it definitely takes a bit of parental supervision.
The kids loved it and were SO very proud of their finished shirts.
A couple of things we learned the hard way:
♥Definitely use very dark colors blue, black, purple etc..
♥certain brands of t-shirts just bleed more than others and certain colors do too. (I have to make another shirt for my nephew because his didn't fair so well...but one out of four wasn't so bad)
♥Always shake the bleach pen vigorously before each t-shirt. The gel doesn't stay a gel for long...it turns to liquid quickly! (p.s. this may be the reason for my having to make my nephew another shirt...just sayin;)
♥You will still get a little discoloration on other parts of the shirt no matter how quickly and carefully you put it into the washer...but it just adds to the handmade and tie dyed look:)
Directions:
♥Place something hard inside of the t-shirt to keep the bleach from bleeding through.
We used a cutting board:)
♥Have the kids draw a simple design on paper for you to copy onto their tee...or if you are brave let them take the pen and do it directly onto the shirt. You will have something that looks like this:
♥Let it sit 10-15 minutes and then immediately put it into the washing machine.
You will end up with something that looks like this!
If you use Dollar store t-shirts like I did then you can decorate a whole stack and experiment with different looks. Then if they don't turn out you aren't out a bunch of money and they can always be used as sleep shirts right?
Definitely a fun project and one we will be trying again:)
Link me up if you try this too!
Happy reverse tie-dying!!
*I believe this idea was originally seen in Family Fun magazine a few years back...although I can't be sure because...well..you know I'm old:)

So neat!
